A Poem for a Favorite Aunt
by
Irene Herz (Aunt Reenee)
Giggling, bouncing, whispering in the night
A special time with my cousin-friend
Aunt, at midnight, you turn on the light
Our late night revel to put at an end
Sleepy and cranky, it's true that you might
Have shouted and growled at us two
But you glowed with the message that all would be right
If only we two would just snooze!
I miss you, my aunt, so warm and so bright
I wish I could see you once more
But your memory still warms me, a secret delight
You taught me what aunties are for
